Taking Your Lawn Off Drugs
Pesticides and herbicides used on lawns cause major health damage to people and pets.
There have been over 200 independent studies that link 2,4-D with various diseases.
2,4-D is found in 1,500 over-the-counter weed killers. The National Cancer Institute has
linked pesticide exposures to lymphatic cancers, finding that exposed individuals were 600
percent more likely to contract cancer than people who did not contact the pesticide.
An Ottawa, Ontario organization operates a faxback service that provides valuable
information about the dangers of lawn care chemicals and about alternatives. People
Against Addicted Lawns (PAALS) provides information on how to care for your lawn
organically (ask for faxback.lwn), a complete bibliography about the problems resulting
from chemical lawn care (ask for faxback.bib), and general health and environment
information about chemicals and lawns (ask for baxback.hea).
The group also sells the information in booklet form.
